To be held at the Napanee Lions Club hall on Centre St. in the town of Napanee Ont. The hall can be reached from Hwy. 401 by taking the Hwy. 41 interchange at Napanee and proceeding south on Hwy. 41 (Centre St.), through the town, over the Napanee River, through the next set of traffic lights and proceed approximately 100 yards on your left to the auction site.
We have been asked by Peter Carswell of Oshawa Ont., to sell his late wife's collection of country furniture and accessories, put together over the last 50 plus years. Mollie's mother was an antiques collector and passed on to her the desire to acquire great things. You'll see the progression in the collection from stripped great pine furniture to truly great painted pine pieces, represented by both Ontario and Quebec examples including a Wilno blanket chest with outstanding floral painted panels, a Que. harvest table with seven drawers, a high back Os de mouton side chair, a continuous arm Windsor chair in original painted finish, a set of six refinished fan back side chairs, a great small stretcher base table with a single drop leaf in original painted surface, a refinished pine wood or grain box, a hanging corner cupboard in old over paint, a country couch in old paint, an outstanding Quebec wall shelf with a scalloped decoration and in its original blue painted finish plus other painted wall shelves, a glazed top refinished pine two piece flat to the wall cupboard from Ontario, a large refinished pine open cupboard, a painted blind door corner cupboard with the original grain painted surface, a high post canopy bed in old painted finish, ect. Other areas of interest, represented in the collection are equally as good as the furnishings and will include a collection of Portneuf type china in various forms, early lighting to include betty lamps, a wrought iron loom light, a painted hanging candle chandelier, tole wall sconces, coal oil lighting in clear and colour , paintings, decorated stone ware, textiles to include several quilts, folk art to include many carved birds and bird cages, horse drawn vehicles, a small quantity of vintage stuffed animals, Mennonite dolls, wooden ware to include ladles and scoops and spoons, carved flying ducks, carved flowers, firkins in paint, carved fish and animals, trade signs to include a great barber's pole, pewter in various forms, plus an assortment of period dishes and accessories.
