I have been asked by Betty Batchelor of Owen Sound Ontario to sell by unreserved public auction their many collections put together over the past forty years by Betty and her late husband Ernest. This sale will consist of a collection of red ware, stoneware and decorated stoneware including miniatures in both stone ware and red ware, duck and goose decoys, quillwork and baskets and a smattering of other related collectibles.

The stoneware consists of approximately 50 decorated examples from predominately Ontario potters with a few from Quebec and US potters. The red ware is from, western Ontario with a few pieces from Quebec. The duck decoys represent a cross section of carvers from Ontario and Quebec and Canada’s east coast. In addition there will be a small quantity of yellow ware, Mocha, Bennington type, etc.

Some of the potters represented in the collection are J.H. Ahrens, S. Hart, Morton & Bennett, F. P. Goold, Eberhardt Toronto, W.E. Welding, Lazier, Skinner, H. Schuler, Woodyatt and Co., Welding & Belding, Orrin L. Ballard St. Johns, St. Johns Stoneware, J. R. Burns, Flack and Van Arsdale, and miniatures from William Eby, Woodford Pottery, Brantford, Hart, Mildmay, Horning & Brownscombe etc. Two of the interesting miniatures are shown on page 108 of Webster’s pottery book. They are a pair of handled stoneware jugs from Hart Bros. of Picton Ontario and feature the incised initials AB and AB Jr. etc.

The duck and goose decoys consist of over 75 lots and represent carvers from Ontario, Quebec and the east coast of Canada with examples by Joe Momney, Ralph Malpage, Cec Anger, George Warin, J.R.
