My Favourite Episodes of the "How I Write" Podcast

18 July 2024

David Perell has an awesome podcast called How I Write where he interviews top writers to uncover their writing process. Go listen to it! David is such a good interviewer who asks great questions and follow-ups to engage the guests and keep the energy going for the length of the interview.

The YouTube videos are broken down into chapters making it easy to scrub through, but transcripts of the interview seem only to be available on Apple Podcasts.

  • Tyler Cowen and Alex Tabarrok, on The Story of Marginal Revolution [Apple, YouTube]

I don’t read the Marginal Revolution blog at all, but listening to Cowen and Tabarrok talk about their twenty year (!) journey of writing their blog. To be honest I am quite envious of the friendship these two have developed over the decades.

  • Marc Andreesen: It’s Time to Write [Apple, YouTube]

Marc Andreesen is such an interesting guy. As a co-author of Mosaic and co-founder of Netscape, he was there at the dawn of the stone age of the Internet. The man is still pretty sharp though. I can’t believe David called him “dude” during the interview.

  • Steven Pressfield: Every Story Needs a Villan [Apple, YouTube]

  • Harry Dry: Learn Great Copywriting in 77 Minutes [Apple, YouTube]

Copywriting is focussed on writing in the advertising domain, Dry has some great one-liners and ideas around writing punchy sentences and memorable turns of phrase.
